A shared blueprint for every university website in Burundi, built on open source

By Carlos Parker · Head of International Business

The new École Normale Supérieure du Burundi website built on the shared university design system.

Every university deserves a world-class digital presence. In Burundi, where the population is growing fast and higher education is expanding quickly to meet demand, good digital tools are urgently needed.

A design system for a whole sector

In partnership with Burundi's Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research (Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale et de la Recherche Scientifique) and KIT Digital Innovation HUB, Arxia and the TYPO3 Association developed a design system inspired by Arxia's work with GovStack.

It gives every national university the same blueprint for its website. Each institution can quickly implement and customise a professional web portal that reflects its own identity and ambitions, without starting from a blank page.

ENS goes first

The first university to adopt the reference model is the École Normale Supérieure (ENS), which is relaunching its website on this foundation.

Open, reusable, built to scale

The model is free, open source and built on TYPO3 CMS. Any university, anywhere, can use it to establish a strong, professional online presence quickly.

This is what digital public infrastructure looks like in practice: shared, reusable, open and built for scale.
