AI in Ugandan universities: Arxia and Vision Africa AI meet the Uganda Vice-Chancellors Forum
By Carlos Parker · Head of International Business

Universities are being asked to prepare students for a world that AI is reshaping, while their own institutions run on processes built for a different era. In Kampala, Arxia sat down with the people who lead them.
A working session with university leaders
Together with partners Vision Africa AI, the Arxia team met the Uganda Vice-Chancellors Forum for a working session of more than three hours. The focus was practical: what does it take to implement AI in a university, and how do you build AI operating systems that produce results rather than pilots that fade?

Where higher education is heading
The conversation also looked ahead, at where the sector is going and the challenges universities already face: rethinking intellectual property when AI is part of how knowledge is produced, and adapting to the new realities of teaching and learning.

Next steps
Several initiatives came out of the session. Arxia and Vision Africa AI are now working on ways to accelerate AI adoption across Uganda's universities, building on the AI Acceleration Program already running with Ugandan organisations.
